Description: In the early 1990′s, the rap music collective Hieroglyphics turned a lot of heads with Souls Of Mischief’s debut single 93 til Infinity and the ensuing albums by them, Casual, Pep Love, and by the entire crew as Hieroglyphics . Viewd by some as the Bay Area (west coast) counterpart to the fading Juice Crew and the emerging Native Tongues or Wu Tang Clan, their energetic and inspired lyric, coupled with some innovative production put them at the top of many most influential lists for years to come. Thrust back into the spotlight with their recent single Gun Fever (a commentary on the US culture’s ongoing obsession with guns and violence), they are now set to release their new album The Kitchen . Seventeen tracks deep, featuring the cutting, mixing and beat chopping skills of Sacramento DJ/production crew The Sleeprockers, the album is a return to 1993-era energy. Drawing its title from the Sleeprockers’ practice of setting up their production equipment in their kitchen, as well as from the creative process of assembling the album’s disparate elements into one cohesive record, The Kitchen is an authentic combination of Hieroglyphics’ signature lyrical and musical prowess with their mastery of the classic posse-cut style, and the hip hop history that they embody.
